SINGAPORE – A new PIE cycling and pedestrian bridge that will be part of a route linking Bishan to the city is more than halfway complete, but parts of the highway will be closed on several nights for works to continue apace.
The PIE bridge – nearly 700m in length – is the final link in the Bishan-to-City Links project that will provide a continuous 10km green route from Bishan to the city for pedestrians and cyclists.
When the bridge is completed in the second half of 2027, cyclists can get from Bishan to the city centre in under 30 minutes.

The PIE bridge and improvement works are expected to be completed by the second half of 2027, he said.
Another cycling and pedestrian bridge for Bishan, Marymount and Ang Mo Kio residents will be built and linked to the start of the Bishan-to-City bridge; it will also connect both sides of the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and provide access to the upcoming Teck Ghee MRT station.
Production operator Goh Heng Yi, 33, who regularly cycles in the area, is looking forward to using the bridge because the current route requires cyclists to carry bicycles up two flights of stairs.
He said: “Most cyclists simply use the pavement at the PIE and Bendemeer Road, which is very narrow.”
Homemaker Norzamaria, 47, who often goes cycling with two of her four children, aged nine and 12, said: “I hope the new route will create a safer journey between Bishan and the city, with fewer interactions with traffic.”
It will be especially useful for young children and the elderly, she added. The bridge will also cut the time it takes to get to the city centre on a bicycle, she said.
To carry out works on the rest of the Bishan-to-City bridge, parts of the PIE will be closed on four nights between mid-July and mid-August.
These closures will take place during the off-peak early morning hours from midnight to 5am, said the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in a statement on July 2.
